Don’t let that shade fade!

There is nothing worse than watching your shade fade! To ensure your hair color stays vibrant as long as possible, our expert color specialists have pulled together the following tips:

Play the waiting game with your color!

When you have your hair colored, the cuticle layer is opened, making it easy for the color to penetrate your hair so that you get that rich vibrant color you wanted. If you wash your hair too soon after coloring, the color will fade, due to the cuticle needing 48 hours to naturally close! We recommend waiting at least two days after coloring your hair before washing, and letting a professional style your hair so you look awesome during the wait time! (who doesn’t want “no fuss” hair for 3 days!

Skip the Sulfates!

Sulfates are the chemicals in shampoo that create a foaming effect. Sulfates are harsh on your hair and can strip it of color and many of its natural oils. If you have colored hair, opt for a sulfate-free shampoo and conditioner. We recommend All-Nutrient organic hair care products.

Less is Best!

Whether your hair is colored or not, consider washing your hair less. If your hair is colored, you should definitely wash your hair less. When you wash your hair, you strip your hair of natural oils that are meant to moisturize and keep your color fresh and vibrant. When you wash every day, you slowly take away a little bit of the hair color with each wash. Try a few spritzes of dry shampoo between washes if you are concerned about greasy hair.

Cooler water allows cool colors to stay longer !

When the water temperature is too hot, your hair cuticle opens and causes the color to wash out when shampooing. To prevent color loss when showering, our experts recommend using a slightly warm water temperature and then rinsing with cooler water. The warm water allows the best cleanse, and the cold water will seal in moisture to prevent hair color fading, and create shine!

Let it air dry !

Using a hairdryer too often can cause your hair to dry out, which can dull the color. Why not let it air dry. Not only will this protect it from damage but will also help to keep that vibrant color. When air drying hair, use a moisturizing hair oil like Alurum to help reduce frizz, keep colored hair healthy and silky smooth.

Cover it up !

Sunlight can actually dull the hair color. Cover up your hair for the first few days after a color treatment if you’re going out in the sun to keep your hair vibrant!

Chlorine is mean !

Chlorine can strip your hair of its color or worse, change the color of your hair. If you can opt for the ocean over the pool to help protect your color. If you do use the pool, wet hair before and spray conditioner . Make sure to wash your hair to get rid of the harsh chemicals and apply a deep conditioner to lock in the moisture.

Be sure to ask your Oasis Color Specialist to recommend products specifically for your hair type and color! We have awesome clean vegan, sulfate-free, gluten-free, cruelty-free, organic, Redken, Lanza, All-Nutrient, and Amika products.
