Blast Out the Brass with a Little Purple!

Making the most of purple shampoo...

Whether you are a bottle blonde or have naturally lighter locks, incorporating purple shampoo into your hair care routine will help you maintain and tone your current hue in between salon visits.  Purple shampoos will not make your hair lighter, what it will do is tone out the brassiness.

Purple shampoo is specially pigmented to remove those yellow and brassy undertones. under control. Wondering how it works? Opposite colors, cancel each other out – so purple pigments counteract yellow tones in blond hair.

Did you know that purple shampoo can help tone brown hair? That’s right, if you have some brassiness going on especially if you have had an ombre, highlights or balayage, add purple shampoo into your hair care routine and wash it all away!

Choices, choices, choices… There are so many different brands on the market. A good purple shampoo will have a deep purple color, and thick consistency. Always read the instructions before using (it's not the same as using a regular shampoo). If you leave it on too long, you could end up with hair that has a purple tint. For your first wash, use a deep cleansing shampoo first to strip away any left-over products from the environment or from styling. Then apply the purple shampoo, lather, and let it sit for up to 15 minutes, depending on how brassy your hair is. The longer you leave it in, the more it will tone. If your hair starts to take on the lavender tint, cut back on washes and supplement with a moisturizing shampoo.

We recommend using a color safe shampoo and conditioner for your normal routine and adding in the purple shampoo in between washes. So, if you wash your hair twice a week, you will want to use the purple shampoo once a week.

Aluram Purple Shampoo is one of our favorites to remove brass and brighten up any blonde, silver, or white hair. It is rich in biotin and helps replenish nutrients while adding shine and building strength. It is great for all hair types!

Another one of our fav’s is Olaplex No.4P bond building purple shampoo and Amika has a good all around “Bust your Brass” version. We also love the new Redken “Blondage High Bright” or their color extended line “Blondage”.

Come visit any of our three locations (Palm Harbor, Dunedin & Oldsmar) for your purple hair care!
