A message from Maria…
You never forget the day when you hear the words, “You have breast cancer.” For me, as a single mother, it hit hard and at the same time challenged my faith. My faith, which was strong got deeper… My children, my family, and my church friends gave me the strength I needed to become a warrior and my faith guided me through the breast cancer battle.
Today, I celebrate 9 years in health, cancer-free! I share this message to encourage breast cancer warriors to continue their fight, do so vigorously, and continue to have faith in the Lord. I encourage everyone to learn the risk factors and signs and symptoms of breast cancer, knowledge is power. CHECK YOUR TATAS!!
Breast cancer is the most common cancer in American women, and it is the second most common cause of cancer deaths in women. It is important to know your breasts, EXAMINE MONTHLY. Know how they feel, and have your doctor teach you how to do a proper breast self-exam. Watch for changes to your breasts, and make an appointment with your doctor if you notice that your breast tissue feels unusual. Don’t put off your mammograms.
Be your own advocate, make sure you mention any breast changes or lumps to your doctor. If you think you feel something, seek answers. Don’t be afraid to get a second opinion and more information. Ask someone who has been through it, to help you navigate through the process and never lose hope!!
The power of prayer is strong, maintain your faith and breathe the beauty of every day! I am a believer in community, without the support of my friends and support from my local church family, I would have never experienced the hands and feet of Jesus! I love to share my experience to encourage others on their journey to better health and to reinforce their faith in God’s plan. It allows me to talk about how much my faith impacted my life, and how God became more alive inside of me during one of the most challenging periods in my life. I experienced his love through the actions of individuals who volunteered to help me in my time of need. Complete strangers sacrificed their time to help me, and I will be forever grateful for the impact that it had on my life and the lives of my children.
“Be faithful in small thing s because it is in them that your strength lies,” said Mother Teresa.
Remember to pray for those around you, we all know someone who has been affected by this disease – shower them with love.
XOXO Blessings
